Raymond G. Schwepe

April 1, 1922 — May 1, 2014

On May 1st, 2014, Raymond G. Schwepe passed peacefully, joining his wife of 59 years, Pauline J. (Kruppa), who passed in 2007. Raymond was the son of Raymond H. Schwepe, originally of St. Mary's, Ohio, and Lillian A. Dieterick, of Lorain, Ohio. A lifelong resident of Lorain, Ray graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1941. During WW II he served with the U.S Airforce as an "Aviation Cadet" assigned to the 9th Air Force, 70th Wing, Headquarters Squadron and spent time in Newbeburg, Germany (near Munich). He attended Wofford College, Spartanburg, SC briefly, before returning to Lorain, where he worked as a turret lathe operator at the American Crucible Co. He joined US Steel, working first in the Accounting Dept., then as a Design Draftsman in the Engineering Dept. He retired from US Steel in 1984. He was a member of "The Greatest Generation," and came of age during the Great Depression and World War II. Ray fished and loved playing golf and did sofor many years with the "Lorain City League" and as a member of "Aquamarine Lodge" formally located in Avon Lake, Ohio. He loved to travel, taking a 13 week cross-country trip, with his family, in 1964, that included stops at the Grand Canyon, Painted Desert, Las Vegas, Yellowstone, Los Angeles, etc. He and Pauline also traveled to Bermuda, Bahamas, Acapulco, and Hawaii. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and served as a councilman at Holy Trinity Parish and became a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peters when Holy Trinity Parish was closed in 2009. He is also a member of the American Legion Post 12, Elyria. Ray is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Robert J.) Trombold, and two granddaughters; Meghan Kyle Trombold, and Casey Carroll Trombold.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 6th, from 6-8 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where prayers will be held on Wed., at 9:00 a.m. His funeral Mass will follow at 9:30 am, at the Catholic Church of St. Peters, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. The Rev. Fr. Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 12. "I am not exactly sure what Heaven will be like, but I know that when we die and it comes time for God to judge us, He will not ask, "How many good things have you done in your life?" Rather, he will ask, "How much love did you put into what you did?"
