Marilyn Collins

Marilyn Collins (nee Hunter), 78 of Elyria, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Cleveland Clinic following a short illness.
Born August 27, 1934 in Lorain, she settled in Elyria in 1962. She graduated from Brookside High School and then from St. Alexis Hospital School of Nursing in 1955.
She worked as a nursing supervisor at Elyria Methodist Home from 1975 until her retirement. Prior to that, she worked at St. Joseph Hospital on the maternity unit for 20 years.
Marilyn was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elyria, and the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lorain, AARP and Golden Agers.
She enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her sons, Thomas Jr. of Elyria, Jerome of Elyria, James (Laura) of Lorain and Robert (Theresa) of Middleburg Heights; a daughter, Sharon (Jim) Phelps of Amboy, IL; grandchildren, Deborah, Magan, Caitlin, Sean, James, Abigail, Victoria, Sophie, Aaron, Delaney, and Aidan; a brother, Walter J. (Charlotte) Hunter of Tampa, FL.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Thomas J. Collins Sr. in 1991; parents, Walter and Josephine (nee Estok) Hunter; and a daughter-in-law, Margaret Collins in 1997.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:00 am in the funeral home, followed by mass at 9:30 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria. Rev. Donald H. Dunson, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
